Allan Vache: With Benny in Mind Arbors Jazz Records ARCD 19338 recorded March 28 and 29,2006 at Lone Pine Studios, Orlando, Florida. Gary was the tracking recording engineer along with Michael Hurley and Gary Baldassari. The setup was similar to the Allred/Gordon Head to Head cd with the drums and vibes in the isolation rooms, the rest of the musicians were setup in the large main room with minimum baffles. No console mic preamps were used in the recording process. All high voltaage 130v mic preamps, discreet class A , and others went direct into the digital multitrack first. The output of the digital multitrack fed the console for control room monitor mix and for reference cds only. The MX2424 multitrack was then shipped to Audio Images in Bradenton Fl. for the mix where Alan Vache,Charlie Bertini,Gary Baldassari and Mike Badalamenti put the final touches on this great sounding cd. Please see the below session photographs and descriptions i.e. mic preamp pile.

Photo at left of Alan Vache in the pocket. The DPA 4012 was fed in the Forsell preamp on the floor along with the DPA miniature body mic was fed into a Crainsong Spider which is difficult to see in the photo. The remaining 4012 was scrapped at the start of the session but was left on the stand, the body mic and single DPA4012 reproduced a silky smooth clarinet sound without the second 4012. (less is better)
A great sounding cd Audiophiles will appreciate! This is due to the fact that Pro Tools was not used in any part of this project.

Session humor above as Ed Metz Jr. demonstrates the finesse drum style used by Benny Goodman's drummers .

Piano mics pictured below right consist of a rare Gold DPA 4040 omni where both the transistor and tube preamps were used. Piano high and lows mics are DPA 4011.
